There was said to be an evil Queen that ruled these lands, at least for a few miles, though no one has ever seen her. They have only ever seen her son, the Prince, while she is off ruling the land in silence. It's strange how the villagers of the Kingdom were comfortable with the fact that this Queen was never seen, simply thinking that when said Queen dies, another takes her place. But that wasn't true, and the only people who knew that were those who worked and lived at the castle.
They were too scared to ever say a word about what really went on in there, and it wasn't as if they ever really saw the Queen. She barely came out of her tower, where the Princess was always seen, causing mischief with her other little brother, maybe even ruining the cook's plans for a wonderful dinner. They all really adored the girl, even if she had an attitude that wasn't fit for a Princess. She was normal, and the servants were desperate for anything normal these days.
But despite the girl's normalcy, the Queen was slowly beginning to despise her own grand-daughter, though the girl was quite ignorant to this. The Princess, a pretty woman that went by the name of Alba Verona, was quite fond of the Queen's huntsman. It disturbed some of the servants, knowing very well all about the Queen's right hand man, and they didn't want Alba to get hurt. But they couldn't stop her from spying on him when she could.
It was said that the Huntsman and the Queen didn't age. It was quite easy to tell, for the Princess' father was slowly beginning to look as though he was older than his own mother. But Alba didn't really mind this, because even though magic was feared, it certainly wasn't anything new. It was seen so often, and Alba was really quite fascinated by it all, but she wasn't as fascinated with it as she was with a certain blond man who she spotted in the Queen's garden.
She moved amongst the flowers, making sure to lift up the overly fabricated dress, her eyes locked on the huntsman with a keen determination.
Alba was an odd young woman, not at all frightened by the fact that the huntsman she had known all her life, ever since she was a kid, and yet he hadn't changed at all. She, in fact, had a crush on him ever since she could talk. It wasn't as strong as it was now, back then, but it still counted.
"Garrett," she greeted, her warm brown eyes peering up at the man before her, smiling ever so sweetly even though if one were to look closer, there was truly a devious gleam in her eye. "I didn't know you enjoyed flowers. I would have given you some if you only told me."

As for a certain Jim Adair, his life had never been influenced by magic. The only magic he has ever seen was watching the jesters pull swords out from their throat, which, quite frankly, disturbed the hell out of Jim. If their life had magic in it, Jim was sure that his step-father would never have had to search for a girl who /could/ do something magical, all because of his stupid gambling problem.
And since Jim was to become King, his older brother having took the easy way out and had chosen to become a Knight, it was Jim's job to go and search for this girl in the tiny Town not too far from here. But Jim really didn't want to do this, and it was mostly because he was incredibly lazy for a Prince. He'll get up enough energy to do what people wanted of him, but that didn't mean he was about to be fast when doing it.
Jim was a lean boy, not exactly the most masculine, with short black hair and brown eyes. If someone were to place him next to his sibling, it would be clear to see that they were obviously related.
Jim sighed as he patted his horse, the horse seeming to be complaining as well as he was. The people in the town looked up at him in awe as he moved to get off his horse, despite the obvious reluctance. A man in rags came close, making Jim sneer in disgust at his appearance, feeling as though he was going to have to take a lot of showers to get rid of the dirt this place was going to place on him.
He, however, was lead to the King's castle where he was to wait at the Gate.
"She's truly beautiful, majesty," a man said beside him, though it was nervous the way he spoke.
Jim just shook his head and sighed, thinking this was to be a complete waste of time.

To Garrett, his whole life seemed to be a curse. Or, at least, for now it did. He tried not to think about it too much, his life. It was just this really bad tale about being able to live forever, and he hated it. Especially after the queen got involved. He hated her, really, that queen, and now he was going to have to spend his whole life serving her, being ‘proud’ of serving her, and basically everything else. They shared a life, she and him, in more ways than one. For what felt like as long as he could remember, Garrett had been perpetually stuck at the age of twenty. He was a handsome, blond, brown-eyed man. He was quite muscular, actually, and while anyone would probably be glad to be stuck in his body, he hated it, because he knew it would last forever, and he would always have the Queen to follow orders from. He was an eternal servant, but, fortunately, there was one little ray of sunshine that came in the darkness.
Her name was Alba Verona, the Queen’s sweet, adorable little granddaughter. He’d known her since she was a child, and she’d always been splendid company, tough he’d never really thought of her as anything more than some sort of distant niece - after all, he was probably old enough to be her grandfather, so why bother thinking of her in any other way? Besides, he could still remember when she was a child, it was still hard to think of her as some sort of an adult. And that’s why, really, he was standing outside, instead of hanging around inside the night before this party for her becoming of a woman - an adult, something that only reminded Garrett that someday, she, too, would get older, and whither away from his sights, while he stayed just as he was now, loyal to her grandmother for unbelievable reasons. He didn’t even notice as the girl came up behind him, startling him a bit as he turned to her and flashed a sweet smile.
“Ah, well…It’s your party, it would’ve been rude for me to ask for some, wouldn’t it?” He asked with a light chuckle, eyeing the girl sweetly, despite his not really wanting to be around her at the moment, for he knew her reasons were probably different than his. “What is it you’re doing out here, though? You should be back inside, with your guests for tomorrow.”

Harley knew she wasn’t going to get off on this on looks alone, and perhaps that’s what worried her. She didn’t know how she was going to get out of this - how the hell was she supposed to just start ‘making’ gold like it was nothing? She didn’t even know how this had happened. Harley Nair wasn’t anything special; she was a pretty, petite little blond with a round face and a bitter personality. Her parent’s had split up when she and her sister, Bailey, were young, and they’d lived the same, simple, poor life ever since. Harley worked as a seamstress, for the same person, since she was about 10, she earning as much money as she could for she and her sister, simply to stay alive. Now she was being forced off into the hands of a King who’d been told a lie, and she wouldn’t at all be able to please him, and if she tried to get away, she and Bailey would be on the streets again. It was a dilemma - a terrible dilemma , and there was nothing to do but go along with it. For now, at least.
“This way.” shouted a man as he grabbed Harley by the arm, dragging her, fully dressed as a pathetic looking peasant, towards where she was supposed to meet this ‘Prince’ that the king had sent to bring her to the castle. It made her stomach sick just thinking about it, what had happened, and what might happen in the future. In a matter of moments, her eyes fell upon him; a handsome, well-dressed man standing outside with a horse, and she felt her heart drop into her stomach with fear, her blue eyes going wide as she simply stared speechlessly at the Prince, afraid that everything was about to go wrong.
“Your highness.” The man announced, pushing Harley nervously out towards the boy. “This is Harley Nair, the one you came for.” He said, as Harley gave a shaky little bow to the prince, scowling, as her eyes jumped to her boss, the man standing beside Jim, in a sharp glare.
“Sir.” She greeted quietly, her vice sounding much more firm and determined than she appeared to be.

She found herself smiling at his words, sitting down on the bench before him, looking quite like a fox who finally found her prey. "I wouldn't have minded," she said honestly, watching the man with curious eyes. Did it freak her out that she was in love with some man who never aged? It really didn't. Why did it matter? Even if he was old, his body stayed the same age, and Alba really did like his body. "But they're boring," she said quickly, scowling as she noticed him trying to push her away. "And you seem like you're all alone." Alba found herself frowning as she sat up from her bench, moving quickly toward the man's side, pulling a flower out from the bush and twirling it with her fingers. "You've never complained to my company before," she observed. "Why now?"

Jim looked down at Harley, but he was a little unimpressed. She didn't look like she gold make gold. If she could, why was she wearing such hideous clothes? He nodded at the man, before nudging his head toward the horse, sighing lightly as he realized that he was now going to have to travel all the way back to his Kingdom. He took in a deep breath, glaring at the others to make sure they went away before looking quickly down at Harley. "So, can you really make gold out of any fabric?" he asked in a bored tone, lifting the girl up on the horse before he moved to sit behind her.

Garrett eyed Alba wearily, not quite sure what she was doing as she bounced up from the seat she had taken, picking a flower from the garden and playing with it as though it were a little toy for her delight – which, in a way, it was. This whole place was, to an extent, hers, especially now that she was a woman, as strange as it was to call her that.
“Well, it’s not that I don’t like your company, Miss. It’s that…well, you were a girl before.” Garrett said simply, giving a small shrug as he stared down at the pretty girl seriously. “People might get suspicious now – a man and a woman out in the garden all alone. Granted they’d have to have rather wild imaginations, but, believe me, they do. I wouldn’t want silly gossip to start tarnishing your reputation already. Would you?”

“Yes, if I want to.” Harley answered Jim as smoothly as she could, telling a hard lie as she glared down at the man whose fault this all was. “But I don’t go around boasting about it in public, unlike some people.” She snapped, looking as though she might jump from the horse and start strangling the man standing beside them, barely even noticing as Jim got up on the horse behind her. Her sister had better be alright when she got back, that is, if she got back, or she really would kill that jerk standing by their feet. “How is this going to work, anyways?” She asked suddenly, turning back to Jim with a bit of a softer gaze. “I help your father out of his debts and I can come home, right?”

"I didn't think reputations would be so important to you," she commented, watching the man curiously, her affection clearly showing as she moved closer to him, her grin becoming wider.

"Do you think a poor man would give up a large lump of gold?" asked Jim, sounding very amused by the girl's question. Did she really think she was going to be able to come home? His father found something that could make him gold whenever he asked, though Jim didn't really believe that she could, and wasn't so sure if he shouldn't even bring her back to the Kingdom anyway. She would get hanged once they found out that she couldn't do all the things they said she could.

He hadn’t been as much of a boy as she thought he had, for he had been a man far longer than she could remember. There was nothing simple, or ordinary about him, but he hated the term ‘special’, so he stuck with being ‘different’. There were few people alive oblivious to his ‘condition’, of sorts, and then there was Alba, who seemed to be in denial that he’d ever been anything but her own age.
“My own isn’t important.” He said plainly, stepping backwards away from the pretty girl just a bit, knowing that being in such close contact with her probably wasn’t a good thing. “But yours is essential.” He nodded, eyeing her wearily. “You’re Her Majesty’s granddaughter. If something were to happen to ruin you, no one knows what might happen.”

“Right…” Harley breathed heavily, turning away from Jim to stare ahead, utter disappointment crossing her face. If she said no now, that she couldn’t do it, what would happen? She wasn’t so sure that she’d be allowed to live, if the Prince had come all the way out this far already just to get her, and even if she did live, she’d be out of a job, wandering around with Bailey for who knew how long until she could get another one – if that were even possible. And if she went, went with Jim and failed at creating gold for the King, then what? She’d be hung for sure, wouldn’t she? But…maybe she could get away? Before they even made it to the palace? She could try to find a job somewhere with better markets, somewhere closer to the kingdom, and send money for her sister whenever she made it. Either way, there wasn’t really a good choice. There were just a whole bunch of bad ones, and none of them were her fault.
“Let’s go then, shall we?” She asked, holding on to the front of the saddle rather tightly. “We wouldn’t want the King to have to wait.”

He knew the sorts of things that could happen while they were out here alone, and he did, after all, find the young woman attractive, even if she was much too young for him, despite appearing the same age. “It’s not that I don’t enjoy your company, Alba, I do. I just don’t think we should risk it.”

“It’s…not really something you learn.” Harley replied slowly, glancing back at the Prince nervously. How was she supposed to make up some stupid lie like this? Surely the King couldn’t be that stupid, could he? Some girl, in the middle of nowhere, all of a sudden able to turn thread to gold? Sure, strange things happened, but this? “It just…sort of happened. I don’t know how, or why, it just did. Believe me, it was as much of a shock to me as it is to you.” She said, more truth in her words than she led on, glancing back to eye the Prince wearily. “You don’t think I can do it, do you?” She asked.

"But I don't care about that, Garrett. I don't want to marry some silly Prince." He had always been there for her, and she had always adored him for that. As she grew, so did her feelings, and she was okay with that. "I want to risk it!" she said quickly, reaching for his hand, pulling it up to her lips where she kissed his knuckles tenderly.

"Darling, I don't think my father even has any brains left in that ugly little head of his, so no, I don't believe you." Jim sighed for a moment, really wishing that this girl wouldn't question his beliefs. It might go into the "if you don't believe me, why don't you let me go?" and then he'd have to go off to explain why he couldn't, and it was just all so bothersome. "So, one day you just started creating gold from nothing? For someone who seems so magical, your clothes are... nice."

Garrett frowned as Alba kissed his knuckles, finding a strange sensation rumble through him, before he shook his head, placing his hands upon her shoulders as he stared down at her, a bit of apology in his eyes. It wasn’t as though she wasn’t pretty, because she was gorgeous, he just couldn’t. He knew he couldn’t. “Alba, I’m afraid you don’t have a choice.” He said sadly, reaching up to touch her face sweetly, giving it a soft, affectionate little pat. “You have to do what your family tells you – even if that means marrying some silly Prince. It’s…just the way it is.” He said, taking her hand suddenly. “I’ll come inside with you, but we can’t stay out here, alright?”

“You know, if you were like me, you could get hung for saying that.” Harley murmured with a scowl, thinking it a little unfair just how much the Prince must be able to get away with on his own. Who would question what he did? Or said? He was the Prince, after all, and even if he didn’t agree with the King, you could get hung for disagreeing with him, too. His question, though, about her clothes, made her blush a little, anxiously feeling as though she were being examined like a small bug in his eyes. “If you wanted to fit in with the peasants, you wouldn’t dress as a King, now, would you?” She asked, eyeing the man nervously. “Not that it helped anyways…” She sighed, shaking her head. “It’s not right for one person to have so much money, you know. Not when there are other people out there that deserve it.” She scoffed. “Maybe it would be a good thing if you were right; if I really couldn’t make gold.”

As for the Prince who was still not even a King, being that the Queen was still on the throne, he simply wanted his daughter to be happy, though for him he thought it was the Prince in the neighboring Kingdom he saw her looking at when he visited. She scowled as he patted her cheek, finding it to be something someone would do for a child. But she let him take her hand, not about to protest to the warm feeling of his rough fingers entwined with her own. "What about when I do marry a Prince?" she questioned, frowning. Did he even care? She wasn't so sure he did, but she hoped he did. She was a silly Princess with a crush, and she really didn't like that. "What will you do then?"

Jim growled a little at her, finding the woman to be bold, and though it was a change, he wasn't so sure he liked it. "And you can get hung for saying /that/," he snapped, glaring at the woman. "And obviously I'm not like you, so I can say what I want." Why was it that he always got stuck with the worst jobs in the world? He let out a small sigh, trying to pay attention to his own thoughts, to try and forget she was even here, but it was a little hard to do. "I am right..." he muttered in annoyance.

“Alba, when you get married…” Garrett said slowly, seeming to think on her question for a few moments, before he glanced to her with a smirk, rubbing her fingers happily. “I will think of your husband as a very lucky, but no doubt undeserving man to have a bride such as you.” He told her, complementing the beautiful girl sweetly. Her husband would be lucky to have her, he knew. She was a good girl, at least for the most part, and she was clearly beautiful. He was actually rather surprised that she didn’t have more than a few suitors already trying to get her hand in marriage. Garrett, however, knew he would – or at least, should be excluded from the group, as it would kill him to see her grow old, while he stayed perfectly young, just the way that he was. Besides, as long as her grandmother had this curse on him, marriage with anyone seemed very unlikely. “You’re a very beautiful woman, Alba.” He said with a nod, leaning in to give her a rather unexpected kiss on the temple, letting his lips brush against her skin very softly. “I’m sure you could have whatever prince you want; silly, or brave.”

“Forgive me, Sir, but if I didn’t know any better, I’d say that you’re just dying to get that rope around my neck.” Harley commented quickly, the thought sending sick chills up and down her spine, at the thought of actually being hung. The thought of the rope tightening around her neck as she fell – her feet never touching the ground as her neck snapped and she couldn’t breathe. It was terrible, but in this time, in this place, it seemed to be the way that most people died. A natural death was actually a gift.
“Alright, so, let’s just assume you’re right for a moment – I can’t turn anything into gold, I’m just as normal as the next person,” She said with a sigh, frowning a little as she stared ahead of them on the horse. “In your opinion, I’m just going to die anyways, so why not die saying what I want?” She asked, glancing back at the boy with a smile, looking him up and down briefly. “You don’t have very good looks, you know. For a prince.”

Alba closed her eyes as she felt his lips brush her temple, her heart beginning to pound rather quickly in her chest. She wanted to say something, but it was clear he was going to be as firm as possible with this. She took in a deep breath, moving close and slipping her arms around him quickly, her scowl forming as she quickly pecked the man on the cheek. "You know, some princes aren't even princes at all..." she muttered stubbornly, pulling back and staring at the man affectionately. But she did as she told and went on inside, getting ready for the next day. She honestly didn't care much for it, and she let it be known. The party started at night, but it was raining, as it usually seemed to be doing lately. She liked the rain, and maybe that's why she suddenly stepped out, still wearing that fancy gown, hair all put up in a pretty little bun. She moved passed the garden, out to where she saw a family blond head not too far from her.
She smiled a little, moving close, smirking as she reached from behind and placed her hands over his eyes. "Guess who?"

Jesse suddenly scowled at her words, though he honestly didn't care much for her opinion anyway. "And for a peasant, you're the worst of them all." He moved along through the path, laughing just a bit when a branch brushed along Harley's face. "You're not exactly helping yourself in this situation," he said quickly, becoming just a little annoyed. "What is your name anyway?"

It wasn’t exactly the smartest thing, but to be honest, Garrett didn’t expect much from Alba after the night before. He’d rejected her, albeit not too harshly, so he didn’t expect to see her coming right back after him. Not for a while, at least. However, he was about to be proven wrong, standing outside on the night of her fancy welcoming to adulthood, not really one for…well, parties. He’d much rather be outside, in nature, than surrounded by all these people in their suits and gowns.
He was outside, tending to a few of the Queens flowers, when he heard someone approaching from behind. He didn’t really care to turn and see who it was, but a few seconds later, soft hands were covering his eyes, and let out a sigh, knowing instantly who it was just by the sound of her voice.
“A witch – a witch who has come to try and murder me, I’m sure of it. Of course, she might be a very pretty witch, but I'll never fall for it.” He said teasingly, turning around quickly to face the girl, placing his hands promptly upon her damp waist, looking her straight in the eye as soon as she took her hands from his face. “You shouldn’t be out here, Alba – you’ll catch a cold in all this rain – and look, you’re almost soaked already.”

Harley let out an annoyed, painful squeak as the branch hit her face, not having been paying enough attention to note that the object had even been coming towards her. She glared back at Jim once it had passed, though, knowing he’d steered them into it intentionally, which she didn’t at all enjoy. He might have been a prince, but she could easily push him off of this horse. Or, at least, she liked to think that she could.
“It’s Harley.” She answered grumpily as he asked for her name, promptly staring back in front of them – this time keeping an eye out for branches, or anything else Jim might try to bother her with. “Harley Nair, but don’t worry about forgetting. I doubt you’ll even care tomorrow.” She scoffed. “Of course, we all know your name; the handsome, desirable, charming, incredible Prince Jim Adair.” She said, pausing momentarily with a little smirk. “At least they got two things right about you. Your name is Jim and you are a Prince, but I find it hard to imagine the others are true.”

For a man who seemed to reject her offer, he wasn't exactly helping her situation. But she looked up, listening as the rain pelted down against the forest floor, smirking at the man before her. "You're starting to sound like a little worry wort, Garrett." She grinned foxishly, suddenly pulling back and bowing at him, offering the huntsman her hand with delight. "And besides, I'd much rather dance out here in the rain then in there with all those stuck-up bastards."

He was going to push this girl off any bloody second now. "Hah. You're so bloody funny -- such rapier wit." He snatched a small leaf from a tree as silently as possible, twirling it with his fingers as he glared at the back of her head. "You've insulted my looks twice now," he stated. "Not only are you poor and pathetic, but you're stupid as well." He reached slowly with the leave, brushing the steam as gently as possibly along her neck in hopes of making her think it was a bug so she could slap her own face. He felt himself giggle. "I, personally, think I'm adorable."
